SMS alerts service at IGNOU

IGNOU launched SMS alerts service on November 18th,2008. The inaugural SMS was given to appr. 40000  learners across India by IGNOU VC Prof.V.N.Rajasekharan Pillai in the presence of PVCs and Directors. IGNOU is having a total of 3.1 million learners spread across the World. However, appr. 90% of the students belong to India. With the launch of SMS service, the communication gap between IGNOU and its learners has significantly reduced. The learners have 3 places to contact for resolution of any of their queries. They are Study Centers, Regional Centers and Headquarters. In 2008, when SMS service was launched, it was available only at Headquarters located at Delhi. Any department which wants to send SMS will e-mail the message to HQs and SMS will go from HQs. There are large number of such requests to send SMS by e-mail from RCs as well as SCs and other departments of IGNOU.

Chennai (Tamilnadu) was the first RC to have SMS alerts service after HQs in 2009. It was followed by Portblair(Andaman and Nicobar Islands), Guwahati(Assam), Itanagar(Arunachal Pradesh) and Imphal(Manipur).

In 2010, SMS alerts service was implemented across all the RCs, Schools, Divisions, Centers,Units and Cells of IGNOU. This enabled each and every constituent department of IGNOU to send communications by SMS to the learners and other stake holders attached to them.

By the time of this post, the number of SMS that were sent already crossed 1 crore.

On July 24th, 2011, Dr.Latha Pillai, PVC launched the second leg of SMS service that enables any person across the  Globe to send SMS to IGNOU. The service enabled millions of IGNOU learners across the Globe to SMS their queries to IGNOU. Earlier, they used to send queries using e-mail or post. The current facility enables all IGNOU learners as well as other stake holders to send their queries to IGNOU by SMS with out accessing Internet. IGNOU is receiving appr. 200 queries per day by SMS since its launch in July, 2011.

The objective of this blog is to post developments about SMS alerts service of IGNOU as well as obtain feedback, comments, and suggestions about the service.

    Dr. Suresh your efforts are wonderful .I tried it many times when i am out side the boundaries of Kashmir valley as SMS are not allowed here due to security reasons on Pre-paid mobiles.

    Everything is fine but IGNOU should improve evaluation system. It is total unreliable , it looks that you have some random script that give marks.
    I have 5 Years of experience in java and was surprised to see my java result. However i was passed but it was just passed,my all answers was perfect might be examples was not matching with IGNOU books. IGNOU as result is declared at time but sometimes it is totally unexpected , in a subject you must be failed, you got passed and in which you done very well get failed.

    i thought it will take the cased promptly..
    i had sent two smses to this number regarding the non receipt of my CIC certificate, for which i have appeared and passed the course in June 2009 with enrolment no:092188293. i had sent several requests through the RC, Bhopal and also through emails. nothing happened. now sent smses.. nothing happened.. now to approach RTI... can u please provide the contact address and procedures for this ?

But I have got result of course cs-72 only and result of course CS-71 as "RE-ADMISSION NOT DONE" . But I have already taken Re-admission in both course in April 2011 by sending filled form of Re-admission and Demand Draft(DD no. :601739 & issue date-08/04/2011 & issue bank -state bank of india) at date 11/04/2011 by Registered Post to Student registration division. I have given demand draft total Rs.2200.00 ,Rs.1100.00 for cs-71 and Rs.1100.00 for cs-72 . Both cs-71 and cs-72 course has 4 credit each.

    Respected Sir/Madam,

    I, A.Nandini, have completed my B.ED. in 2009 from this esteemed university, IGNOU.

    I am processing for PR to Australia, for which they have asked for an authenticated certificate proving that I have done my teaching practice. The marks given in the grade card doesn't hold good.

    I need authenticated individual marks memo for each year and a convocation certificate.

    Respected sir,
    I am a student of M. Com 2010 batch. But till today I have not received the degree of M.com. I have completed my M.com with first division in 2011. But for some reason I cannot attend the conviction program. and neither submit fees for degree. How I will get my degree of M.com. Please suggest me.
